LAKAWON ISLAND, Negros Occidental

Lakawon Island is located in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental. It is surrounded by White sand and few locals living in the island. It's a small island with few cottages.

How to get there: Take a local flight from Manila, Philippines to Silay-Bacolod airport and take a bus from Bacolod City or in Silay City North Terminal. You can also rent a car or a jeepney. It will take you around 1-2 hours to reach Cadiz City and ask where exactly where it will take you in the near corner. There's a tricycle which takes you to the boat port or if you are renting a jeepney the driver will immediately take you to the port. A pump boat will be rented as per head, Prices depend on seasons but usually cheap. It will get you to the island for about 15 minutes.

Temperature: Ranges from 23-32 degrees. Mostly sunny. I don't advise rainy season in the Philippines as the water sometimes cover most of the island.

Local Language: Ilonggo, Cebuano but almost all can understand and speak in English.

Around November 2010, when my German Cousins went to the Philippines, we went to this place with my friend. It was my second time around in my life but it was still fulfilling. My first experience was we had BANANA BOAT RIDE but I can't retrieved our pictures because it was in my friendster account. The forecast was rainy but we had limited time so we still decided to go.

We went out from our house around 8am and arrived in Cadiz city around 9-10 am by a rented jeepney then traveled by boat. We enjoyed snorkeling as they were few starfish. We had lunch in the place with Grilled Milkfish and other local food.

There was a sandbar where we ordered drinks (although we brought some with us but was not enough hehehe)

There's some Nipa made shades over the beach were you can rest for awhile from the sun and others climb it to dive.

It was only a day's tour and enjoyment but it was fun. Due to rainy afternoon we decided to go early. For those who like to stay overnight, I advise don't do it on rainy season. The prices are affordable but better book your stay at least a week before for reservations. You can search online or in bacolod where they have office and hotel pick up with a bus or a van.:)
